They are beginners, professionals, activists, mothers, students... They are all different but they share the same passion: surfing. And they could be you!

Today we meet Natsumi, a fresh and straight-to-the point pro-longboarder, who got the surfing virus through both her parents!

HELLO NATSUMI, COULD YOU INTRODUCE YOURSELF IN A FEW WORDS?
Hi, my name is Natsumi Taoka. I’m from Japan, Chiba.
I’m 25 years old. I started surfing when I was 10.
I became professional surfer when I was 17.
I travel around the world for competition.
WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH SURFING TODAY?
Surfing makes me happy all the time so I can’t imagine without surfing in my life.
COULD YOU TELL US ABOUT THE MEMORIES YOU HAVE OF YOUR FIRST WAVE(S)?
I don’t remember when I got my first wave but I remember I felt good.
WHAT WERE YOUR MOTIVATIONS FOR STARTING SURFING?
My parents are surfers so I go to the beach every weekend since when I was child.
DID YOU HAVE ANY FEARS OR A-PRIORI ABOUT SURFING?
WHAT DOES SURFING BRING TO YOUR DAILY LIFE? DOES SURFING PLAY A ROLE IN YOUR PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT?
Surfing bring me a healthy life.
I wake up very early in the morning every day because it is not crowed in the water.
WHO ARE YOUR ROLE MODELS IN SURFING?
IN WHAT WAYS ARE YOU TRYING TO BRING SURFING IN THE FOREFRONT TODAY?
I would like to tell people how Longboarding is wonderful. I currently try to convey that using Instagram posts.
WHAT MESSAGE WOULD YOU LIKE TO CONVEY TO YOUNG AND LESS YOUNG WOMEN WHO WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THEIR FIRST WAVE?
